Q. What is "ZIP-IP" and who analyzes my patents?

A. ZIP-IP serves the needs of the IP community by providing a quick and simple way to have your patents analyzed, at a reasonable cost. ZIP-IP is comprised of US-based, qualified industry experts with many years of experience in a wide array of technology fields, fully trained in Intellectual Property analysis, and trained specifically to deliver the four ZIP Lines offered.

Q. Do you analyze any type of patent?

A. Check OUR EXPERTISE tab for technologies we focus on. We focus on US (Utility, Applications, and RE) and EP patents, the most common type being Utility Patents. If you have a specific foreign country filing, the patent must be available in English. We do not review Design or Plant patents.

Q. How do I enter patent numbers?

A. You can type them individually, or copy/paste from a list, one patent per line. The patent numbers should include the Country Code (such as US or EP) followed by the patent number (with the 2-digit US Kind Code (such as B1) optional). There should be no spaces or commas in-between characters.

Q. What forms of payment do you accept?

A. Amex, Visa, MasterCard & Discover card are accepted. We use PayPal to securely process payment, but you do not need a PayPal account.

Q. What format are the completed ZIP Lines returned in?

A. Multi-patent (ZIP 1&2) are returned as Excel Files, and Single Patent Diagnostics (ZIP 3&4) are returned as MS Word Files. We use MS Windows applications to prepare analysis, and returned files are in MS Office.

Q. How fast to I get my results?

A. Standard ZIP analysis is returned in as fast as 1-day. Additional patents may take longer. The cost and time for additional patents are calculated at time of purchase of a ZIP Line.

Q. What are the pro-rated analysis rates if the number of patents exceed the standard Zip Lines?

A. The charge for analyzing patents in addition to the “Core Quantity” (the minimum order) listed under ZIP SERVICES will be prorated. You can see your total cost by completing a ZIP ENTRY form for your project, where you will have a chance to review the totals before you are obliged to make a payment and before you SUBMIT your project. There is a minimum charge if you input a quantity of patents less than the minimum (“Core Quantity”).

Q. What if there is a problem with my project submission, such as the wrong type of patents are submitted. Can I receive a refund if you cannot complete the work I submitted?

A. Refunds can be provided for submitted work if for some reason we cannot complete the project. If the submitted work is within our area(s) of expertise and has been completed, then there is no basis for a refund.
